此紋飾的親近感已經融到我們這個東方古老國度DNA裡。
唐宋時蓮花紋作為瓷器的主題紋飾，碗、盞、缽、盤的外壁或內劃複線盛開的蓮花。亦見雕刻成立體狀的蓮花，極為流行。
佛教傳入我國，蓮花作為佛教標誌，代表“淨土”，象徵“純潔”，寓意“吉祥”。因為蓮花的品格和特質與佛教教義相吻合。即從塵世到淨界，從諸惡到盡善，從凡俗到成佛。這和蓮花生長在污泥濁水中而超凡脫俗，不為污泥所染，最後開出無比鮮美的花朵一樣。蓮花因此在佛教藝術中成了主要裝飾題材。
