青白釉质色白淡雅、釉面明澈丽洁，色泽温润如玉。
是北宋时期主要的陶瓷品种之一，江西、福建、河南等地众多窑口都有烧造，
尤以景德镇湖田窑所产为最佳。
史料记载唐初即有人将湖田窑出产的青白瓷器送入宫中，称为“饶玉”，是中国最早的贡瓷之一。
这只壶为瓜棱型壶腹，一弯流口，瓜蒂圆盖，肩部溜滑，流和柄位于壶肩上部，相互对称，体态修长而又不失丰满；通体施青白釉，色泛白，各部分衔接处由于积釉而带水绿色，明澈温润，青素淡雅，充分反映了宋人的审美观。
宋代理学盛行，文人士大夫都以儒学为立身之本，讲求修身养性，崇尚自然，“天然去雕饰”，含蓄气内敛。这种背景也反映在北宋瓷器，无一不是以色调单纯，形制优雅而为世所珍。
无怪乎湖田窑青白釉器曾风靡一时，据宋人《东京梦华录》记载，当时京都汴梁与临安都有专门出售青白瓷的店铺。李清照《醉花阴》词中有“玉枕纱橱，半夜凉初透”之句，玉枕指的就是青白瓷枕。
