19th Century French Gilt Floral Black Tea Cup (with Saucer) (6 Sets),
The rims of the cups and saucers are gilt-painted with acanthus leaves and roses, classic European motifs that exude opulence and grandeur.
Each set is paired with a gilt and enamel teaspoon, featuring an elegantly slender handle. The bowl of the spoon is crafted with enamel firing technique, with one pair each in blue, white, and green, boasting fresh and delicate hues. The cup, saucer, and teaspoon together form a complete afternoon tea set of luxurious distinction.
These are porcelain pieces from AUX LIONS DE FAIENCE, France, located at 90 Rue de Rivoli, Paris' most renowned street. In the 19th century, when European porcelain technology was not highly advanced, only royalty and nobility could afford fine white porcelain. Thus, artisans lavished meticulous effort on decorating the fired porcelain, with each cup and saucer hand-painted and gilded by skilled professional decorators. The gilt floral black tea cups feature a palette of pinkish-green and rose-red accents, complemented by hand-gilded detailing, embodying a pastoral-inspired luxury.

with original case. Enamel originated in Europe as a translucent vitreous enamel. A century ago in Britain, the craftsmanship was highly sophisticated and masterful, appearing bright and pristine against the sterling silver base. "Enamel" is transliterated as "珐琅" (fàláng) in Chinese. Possessing a porcelain-like texture and a lustrous, jade-like sheen, the art of painted enamel was introduced to China by Western missionaries and merchants in the late 17th century. It was subsequently adopted into the Chinese imperial palace due to the favor of the Qing court.
