A footrest stretcher is placed between the front legs, and square footrests with outward ridge lines are placed on the left, right and back sides, all with through tenons. A plain apron is placed under the footrest and each of the side stretchers. The overall lines are elegant, the workmanship is delicate, the lines are simple, and it has a strong literati feel.
This chair, named for its resemblance to the hat of an ancient official, has an overhanging backrest and armrests, hence the name "Four-Overhang Official Hat Chair." Because it was popular in northern China, it is also known as the "Northern Official Hat Chair."
An expert once pointed out that chairs with square legs at the back are generally of high quality, and this is indeed true. This is Ming-style furniture.
