Chen Kai's Meiluzhu (Meilu-Bamboo) Tea Set
Clay: Taixi Mine Duan Clay / Golden Duan Clay
Volume: 180ml
Author: Chen Kai
Meilu Bamboo, also known as Meiluzhu , is characterized by the intermingling of spots and the bamboo’s base color, creating a unique charm. Its base color is mainly bluish gray, dotted with animal-pattern-like spots that closely resemble the markings on a sika deer—hence the name "Meilu". Meilu Bamboo is quite rare, and high-quality Meilu Bamboo is even more rarely seen. Moreover, the name "Meilu" is a homophone for "Meilu" (meaning longevous eyebrows and prosperity), endowing it with the auspicious implication of longevity, fortune and official promotion.
This tea set exquisitely mimics the form of bamboo. The outline of the teapot body embodies the layered texture of bamboo joints, and its smooth, rounded lines convey the uprightness of a bamboo stalk. The transition between the shoulder and neck of the teapot follows the natural curve where bamboo joints connect. The teapot handle is shaped like a bent bamboo branch, with its texture subtly replicating the veins of bamboo; the teapot knob is designed as a tiny bamboo joint, seamlessly aligning with the overall "bamboo charm" of the set. The teacups echo the design of the teapot: their rims slightly contract, the bodies gradually widen and then taper toward the base, just like sections of elegant, upright bamboo stalks. The entire set exudes the refined and tranquil charm of bamboo, with every detail reflecting a faithful reproduction of bamboo’s natural form.
