African Blackwood Wanli Cabinet with multi-treasure Inlay Antique Motif

The Wanli cabinet first emerged during the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty. Renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and elegant form, it has been known as the "Wanli cabinet" ever since by later generations. With the improvement of living standards, people have developed a special demand for the display function of furniture—and the Wanli cabinet, with its graceful silhouette, perfectly caters to this need.

This Wanli cabinet features an open display shelf on the upper section, whose railings are decorated with openwork carvings of chi-dragon patterns. Above the cabinet doors, the waist panels are adorned with relief carvings of ruyi cloud motifs, with a central Hundred Treasures Inlay panel depicting the scene of the Eight Immortals Celebrating Longevity. The middle section incorporates waist panels inlaid with the Eight Immortals motif using the Hundred Treasures Inlay technique. The lower section is intricately carved with openwork silkworm and interlocking angular patterns, with an inlaid antique motif panel at its center, exuding an air of opulence and refinement.

The bottom of each leg is wrapped in chiseled antique bronze where it touches the ground. Broad apron boards are installed between the legs, carved in relief with the motif of chi-dragons playing with pearls. These decorative elements echo the carvings on the upper part of the cabinet, elevating the overall elegance and grandeur of the piece.
