African Blackwood Taishi Armchair, with multi-treasure inlay Chinese Zodiac Motifs

The design of this chair is derived from the Zitan Zodiac Chair in the collection of the Summer Palace. Its backrest panel and armrests are inlaid with burl wood cores, adorned with zodiac patterns crafted via the treasure inlay technique. The ruyi cloud-shaped crest rail, together with the interlocking angular pattern components surrounding the burl wood decorative panels, are all meticulously fashioned from large blocks of wood through fret-cutting and assembly, boasting lavish material selection.

The seat surface features a waisted profile with recessed grooves; the front apron is carved with ruyi cloud motifs, and seamlessly connects with the square legs via rounded corners. Raised convex moldings run along the edges. The feet are designed as inner-turned horseshoe-shaped legs engraved with key fret patterns, supported by a base frame fitted with turtle-shaped feet.
